Am I Adding Value?

I think the goal of a believer on mission is hearing the phrase “Well done, good & faithful servant” from Jesus. We believe it means we accomplished our purpose in life. In the pursuit of purpose, I sometimes wonder if “I was all that I was suppose to be” or “did all that was suppose to do” along the way though. Then I read this the other day;

‘Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, is a loudmouth who missed his opportunity!’ – Jer 46:17

Wow, the king, the leader of a nation, not only didn’t take advantage or see his position as missional, it says he missed his window of opportunity! He wasted his chance to influence and impact people for good. He did not accomplish his Kingdom purposes. Ouch!

Intentionality |

As I reflect on this, I sense I need to be intentional at every moment of the day, at every stage of life and at every position in my career. The key to staying on point I think is valuing people. Value leads to significance and fulfillment of purpose.

  • Valuing self- I think this is tied to identity. Is mine in Christ or in my performance? A life in Christ frees me to value myself and frees me to look outward.
  • Valuing others- Am I seeing the good in other people– not just those close to me? How often do I look past others, without really getting to know them or appreciating them as individuals?
  • Adding value- People who live with intentionality are also on constant lookout for spontaneous ways to help others. They have an outward focus as they go through their lives, ready to do something that makes someone’s day transforming it from ordinary to extraordinary.
  • Encouraging value- Significance begins with you but it’s meant to be shared. As you develop the daily habit of adding value to others, begin encouraging people close to you to do the same.

I think incorporating this mindset into the fabric of you will minimize missed opportunities.

Question |

You can begin a significance movement right in your own home, office or community. Which of these four value-statements will you intentionally apply today?
