Running Out

When I just received my drivers license I ran out of gas in a terrible spot– a highway ramp connecting to another during rush hour. I so hate that feeling today I do not let my gas tank go below a quarter of a tank. Funny how the fear of running out can drive a decades old behavior.

“On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” — John 2:1-3

Wedding day is the one day you want everything to go as planned. In the ancient Middle East, wedding celebrations could last for days. To run out of wine would be an embarrassment that might last a lifetime for a bride and groom. So when the wine ran out, Mary didn’t know what to do about it but she knew who to go to.

I notice something when I read this story– the miracle started when there was no more. It was when the wedding party ran out of wine did Jehovah Jireh step in and supply what was missing.

  • He is a God when we run out.
  • He is a God when we are exhausted.
  • He is a God when we are on empty.

Stop running to other people for the stuff you need that only He can provide.

What are you running out of?

  • Joy? When was the last time you’ve been happy?
  • Ideas to make money?
  • Time with your kids?
  • Peace in a challenging set of circumstances?

The Great I AM is here for you to supply what is missing in your life right now.

How can you give Jesus your empty today?
